AdobeTV is most excellent. I watched parts I of II on creating an ePUB file, which causes the content to adapt to different sizes and different eReaders. The following are my slightly incomprehensible notes on the video. I'll do a more thorough job next week of describing what I learned.
Adobe Digital Editions: free eReader
Adobe Digital Editions: free eReader
ToC to the side
ToC at the beginning: hyperlinked.
File--> Export for Digital Editions
Best practices:
Consistently apply character styles and paragraph styles to the whole document
Chapter Number
Title
Body
Body First Paragraph
Nested styles must be made into character styles (drop caps, first words that are small capped)
Edit--> Find/Change
More Options
Find Format
Character style must be applied to bold and italic styles
Place all images in one story
Cmd+X, create extra space between paragraphs, then paste
ImageStyleCenter: Apply paragraph style to the image itself.
Shift+Cmd to resize the image
Highly designed layouts work better as a PDF, not ePUB files
Master items are ignored when exported to an ePUB (like running headers)
Must override other master items, then anchor them.
Next week:
Forcing content to start at the beginning of a page (chapter break, etc.)
