The Empire
by Diego

In 1595 Gastric was a mighty empire. It was located near a volcano. The place was sunny with a big lake. The people of Gastric used a special plant named the Totowa reed. The people used it to make their houses.

The empire had many houses, and in the middle of the empire stood the king’s castle. King Barratry was a good person. He wanted to build a wall between the volcano and the empire to protect the people.

One day the volcano erupted and the lava came out. All the people of the village didn’t have any idea what they should do. The lava started coming over the wall.

Suddenly, a stranger appeared in a time machine. His name was Nactric and he came from the future, from the year 2012. He suggested moving to Miserly.

Miserly was a beautiful place with a lot of water and many plants, trees, and flowers. All the people moved to Miserly.

After several days, when the volcano was calm again, the people came back to Gastric. It had become a horrible place because the lava destroyed the entire empire.

The people asked Nactric to bring new plants from the future. The king Barratry went in the time machine to look for new things for the empire, because he wanted to help the people.

He brought fruits and vegetables to plant in Gastric. They brought water from the lake. The Empire was beautiful with new Totowa plants and the lake was filled with clean water.

The volcano never erupted again, and the people and King Barratry were very thankful for Nactric. Nactric always came back to visit the empire of Gastric and to bring new things for the people.

Super Benjamin and His New Little Friend
by Joaquín

On a normal Saturday at my house, my Grandma was doing the laundry, my Aunt Mary was cooking, Mom and Dad were cleaning the room, and I was watching TV.

Aunt Mary had two little sons, Benjamin and Santiago, who had very different personalities. They were always playing different activities apart from one another.

Benjamin was three years old and Santiago was one year and four months old. They were very happy and smiling kids, but they did not play together. Benjamin loved watching TV, drawing and coloring, making puzzles, and talking a lot.

On the other hand, Santiago loved to ride cars and bikes and to kick balls, but he did not talk much and only watched a little TV. He was always walking and jumping around everywhere.

Aunt Mary and everyone at home thought that they did not have a normal relationship like other brothers.

That weekend was a Saturday. Santiago was playing, running, and kicking a ball around the backyard. Benjamin was watching TV as usual when suddenly we all heard someone yelling and crying. Santiago was in trouble! Everyone hurried to see what had happened; a piece of heavy furniture had started to fall on him. Santiago was holding it up with his weak baby arms. When the adults got to him, they were surprised to see Benjamin rush to rescue his little brother. Since Benjamin was stronger, he took the furniture and put it back in its place, and Santiago stopped crying. Benjamin said: “I saved my pipe, my best brother! I am Super Benjamin!”

Everyone was happy that nothing happened to Santiago, and since that day the two brothers share more and enjoy activities together.

Sometimes difficult moments make stronger relations between families and friends.

The Lost Dog
by Ana

Once upon a time, a little dog named Pink started the adventure of her life when she was adopted by Marissa and Fernando while they were on a trip to the United States. A few weeks after adopting Pink, Marissa and Fernando had to go back home to Madrid, Spain, so they took Pink with them. In the airplane, Marissa watched a movie and Fernando slept, but Pink could not watch the movie and could not sleep.

The next day Pink and her owners arrived in Madrid, and while Marissa and Fernando unpacked the luggage, Pink went for a walk. She got to the park and saw all kinds of animals. There was a cat and as soon as Pink saw it, she ran after it. They ran down the street, and the cat ran all the way up to the top of a tree so Pink could not reach it. At that point, Pink realized she was far away from home.

As it was a new place for her, she did not know the way back home. She tried taking the subway, but when she got off, she was even farther away from home. She realized she was in a very different place. She was actually in Caceres, Spain, where you can find a park and a very big supermarket. There are large bridges; there is a castle with many people. There, in the castle, lived a man with a fox. They took care of the castle.

Pink went to the castle and saw the fox standing with the man, who was a guard. The fox told the man, “Look! A lonely dog!” The dog chased the fox because the fox was a guard and Pink wanted to have that position. She thought dogs must look after people or places, so a fox could not be in a dog’s place. The fox ran so fast that Pink could not get it. The fox said, “Why do you chase me?” Pink answered, “Because I am jealous of your job. You have a perfect job, and me? I am lost! I don’t understand why these things happen to me!” The fox said, “Look, it must be hard to be lost, but I know we can find a solution together.” Pink was shocked because a fox would never help a dog.

The fox had a special friend named Nina, the bear. Nina was very clever and had a map that they could use to return home. They went to meet the bear, and Pink asked Nina to help her find the way. Nina said, “I am not going to help you because I can’t trust dogs.” Pink was mad and said she was never going to ask for help again. The fox asked Nina to please help Pink because she was scared and needed to get back to Madrid. The bear thought and thought, then changed her mind. After all, the fox was her good friend.

Pink went back to Nina’s house and Nina showed her a map with directions to go back to Madrid. Pink had to take a cab to the subway, then take the subway and get off at the Madrid stop. From there Pink had to get a bus to get to Marissa and Fernando’s house. Pink said thanks to the bear and she went back home without any problems.

Once in Madrid, Pink ran to Marissa’s arms and all of them were so happy to see each other again. She learned to be more careful when taking a walk because it was a new place, and she realized that she did not have to be afraid of making new friends and asking for help when she needed it.

The Bear Astronaut
by Rodrigo

Once upon a time there was a bear. The bear’s dream was to be an astronaut, but his father said, “No, you will be a soldier.”

The bear decided to ignore his father. When he was 15 years old, the young bear’s dream was the same. But his father still wanted his son to be a soldier, so the father bought him a plastic weapon. One day at school, NASA was searching for new people to be astronauts and go to Mars. They selected five candidates and the bear was on the list! When the bear went home, he told his family.

“I am so proud of my son!” his mother said. But his father shouted, “You will never be an astronaut!”

“Why?!” cried the young bear.

“Because I already bought plastic weapons for you,” the father said, but the bear did not pay attention to his father.

“You can be an astronaut if you want,” the mom said to her son.

“No, you are NOT an astronaut!” said the bear father.

“What is wrong with you?” said the young bear’s mom. “My little boy is going to be an astronaut because he wants to.”

The next day the bear went NASA and he stayed two years in the NASA program. Later, just three candidates could be chosen as astronauts. The bear and his two friends were on the list!

When the bear was about to go to his first mission on the moon, his father said to the bear,

“NO! Come on, son, let’s go to the military base, BECAUSE YOU WILL BE A SOLDIER!!!!”

“I will defend you, son!” said the mom. The bear answered his father,

“NO! You are mad!” The bear entered the rocket and went on his first mission to the moon. Finally, the young bear had fulfilled his dream.

The Little Dog
by Isabella

Once upon a time, there was a family who lived in a house located in Santo Domingo Gardens, Managua. Arturo was the father, Marcela was the mother, and Marcela Junior was their only child. This family was a very peculiar family because they had a special dog with special abilities named Jack.

Jack came to this family by accident. He used to be alone on the street, homeless and careless, sad and hungry. Marcela Junior saw the poor, miserable little dog, and she felt they had to take him home to take care of him. Marcela and Arturo, Marcela Junior’s parents, said yes, so they took Jack to their enormous house in Managua.

As Jack was not trained, he did not know he had to go outside to go to the bathroom, and one day he peed on Marcela’s valuable carpet in the living room. Arturo saw him peeing, and he started yelling at Jack and saying, “You are so disgusting!!” So Jack ran away because he did not like people screaming at him.

When he was outside he remembered that his mom had told him about his special abilities. He could talk to kids, learn adults’ behaviors, and run as fast as a sports car. Jack knew that if he talked to Marcela Junior about his pee problem she could help him.

He went back to the house and searched for Marcela Junior. She was in her bedroom and was glad Jack was back. She hugged him so hard that Jack said, “Woof! Let me go!”

Marcela Junior was amazed that her dog could speak.

“I can’t believe it!” she said.

“I need you to tell your dad I made a mistake,” Jack said. “I just did not know I had to go outside to pee, so I did it in the living room. Can you please say sorry for me?”

“I can talk to my dad, but if you can speak why don’t you tell him?” Marcela Junior said.

“Because your dad doesn’t like to talk to dogs,” Jack said sadly.

Marcela Junior prayed, steeled herself, and talked amiably with her father. He made her promise to educate her pet better. Her dad also expressed that he would be happy if Jack returned and that he would have a party in honor of the family. Marcela Junior, with the help of her parents, trained Jack for two long weeks, two hours a day, and the result was excellent. Jack became a well-disciplined puppy. They decided to share a memorable celebration with family and friends.

Marcela Junior and her dad prepared all the logistics for the party: invitations (with a picture of all the family, including Jack), drinks, and snacks: popcorn, ice cream, corn chips, chocolates, etc.

What a Saturday, a party day, a sunny day! They started with a fun bath for Jack. Then, with Marcela, Arturo, and Marcela Junior, they decorated the house with balloons and prepared the food. All the invited guests started to come, and they laughed, ate, danced, and enjoyed every second of the party. All the children were happy as they played with Marcela Junior’s puppy, who showed his education at all times.

The next day, when they were having breakfast, they concluded that everything can be solved by expressing their feelings and trying to be filled with love and hope, which are the essence of life.
